Return Of Premium Life Insurance

Most people know that having life insurance to protect their family from financial burden is a good thing. However, the many different types of policies, coverage, and companies can be confusing. The first step in obtaining life insurance is to get life insurance quotes online. But what type of life insurance should you be looking for? One type of life insurance policy that might be a good fit for you is return of premium insurance. Read on to find out more about this option.

How Does It Work?

Like the name says, return of premium life insurance is a type of policy where the monthly premiums paid by the holder is returned in some cases after the policy expires. Many people have a reasonable concern when they buy life insurance, which is that all the money they pay into the policy will be wasted. For a normal term life insurance policy, the premiums paid are gone at the end of the term. With return of policy insurance, on the other hand, the total sum of premiums paid is returned as a lump sum at the end of the term.

Here's an example. Suppose a 25 year old with a new family purchases a 20 year term life insurance policy. If that person dies before the age of 40, the beneficiaries of the insurance policy (likely the spouse or children) will receive an insurance payout. If, on the other hand, the person lives to the end of the term of the policy, then all monthly premiums paid will normally be lost. If that person had purchased a return of premium life policy instead, they would have received the total sum of monthly payments paid over the 20 year term.

There are a couple of things to keep in mind, however. Premiums for return of premium insurance policies are higher than similar types of term life insurance. Also, it's important to remember that although the money is returned at the end of the term, this money will be worth less because of inflation. That means that you're effectively getting back less that you put in.

Where Do I Look

If you're looking for good, affordable life insurance, the first thing to do is compare life insurance quotes online to find out what your options are. Keep your options open, and if you're interested in a return of premium policy, be sure to check out what offerings the insurance companies you're interested have. With a little research, you'll be able to find a great policy to protect you and your family.
